Field Training and Development Coordinator

The Opportunity: As a field-centered organization, JP Cullen is looking for the right person who can execute our mission statement and focus on growing and developing our field workforce. 

The Field T&D Coordinator reports directly to the T&D Manager and supports the VP of Field Operations, Operation Managers, General Superintendents, and Apprenticeship Director. This position will primarily work in the Madison office but will frequently visit our offices and jobsites in the Madison, Milwaukee, and Janesville areas.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting
    • Facilitate career fair process at designated schools and organizations, including attending, registration, planning, and preparation of career fair team
    • Invite and coordinate teachers and students to local jobsite visits
    • Pursue and coordinate career in construction presentations to high school and middle school students
    • Review and screen candidate applications and resumes
    • Schedule and participate, as needed, in apprentice and youth apprentice interviews
    • Support and maintain relationships with Unions and employment service organizations
    • Support JP Cullen’s internal career fair
  • Onboarding
    • Assist in onboarding program for newly hired apprentices, journeymen, and foremen
    • As needed, support new apprentices in getting set up with the Unions for testing and training
    • Assist Youth Apprentices and Registered Apprentices in completing required union and state paperwork
    • Effectively communicate onboarding process and expectations to new hires and their managers
    • Assist in developing and maintaining a mentor program for apprentices
  • Training and Retention
    • Coordinate training programs for apprentices and journeymen
    • Assist internal trainers/presenters in designing and developing training classes
    • Review internal training surveys to evaluate content and help teachers make adjustments
    • Coordinate apprentice performance review process
    • Manage National Apprenticeship Week and organize our internal Apprentice Annual Meeting
    • Assist with and organize apprentice annual reviews
  • Perform additional duties as directed by supervisor

Position Background Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will have at least a bachelor’s degree in HR, Teaching, Marketing, Communication, Business Management, Engineering, or Construction Management OR will have completed a 4-year apprenticeship program plus at least two years of field experience
  • Two plus years of experience doing recruiting/HR, marketing, or business/project operations is preferred
  • Basic project and time management skills and the ability to prioritize work based on business needs
  • Candidates should be passionate about working with people, have excellent time management skills, and be self-motivated
