OPEN POSITIONS

The IT Support Specialist reports directly to the Manager of IT and supports all employees throughout the offices and project sites.  The IT Support Specialist will primarily work in the Milwaukee or Madison/Janesville office but will also visit jobsites to support the project teams.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Respond to job site and office requests to resolve IT issues
  • Visit job sites to provide support, deploy job site workstations, printers, and network equipment in coordination with business units and IT team
  • Provide application support for the following: M365 and related applications, Bluebeam, Adobe, Autodesk products, Oracle P6, MS Project
  • Collaborate with the jobsite/office staff and Cullen IT team to suggest, develop, and test IT improvements
  • Perform setup of new PCs and installation of software as required by staff and authorized by management
  • Train users to work with new computer hardware or software
  • Repair computer equipment and related devices
  • Properly diagnose the problem and walk users through the recommended problem-solving steps
  • Possess and use critical thinking and reasoning skills in the resolution of issues, problems, and tasks

Position Background Requirements:

  • Ideal candidate will have at least an Associate degree in MIS, Computer Science or related area or 2 years of PC support or helpdesk experience
  • Both critical thinking and reasoning skills related to the technology field
  • Working knowledge of Windows, M365, Azure, Networking/WIFI, User management, iOS/Android
  • Basic project and time management skills and the ability to prioritize work based on business needs

The Chief Estimator has major responsibility for influencing JP Cullen’s backlog and success. The Chief Estimator oversees the Janesville Division’s estimators and collaborates with other Division’s Chief Estimators to ensure estimating procedures are in place and executed.

The Chief Estimator reports directly to the Division Vice President and is a member of the Preconstruction and Estimating Group.   Success is determined by high quality scopes and quality estimates, bid hit rates, people development, consistency with estimating systems, and final pricing and budgeting for projects.

Our Need:  A proven leader who has a keen technical knowledge of construction estimating and a hard-charging drive to succeed.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate bid opportunities and make recommendations to the Divisional Vice President.
  • Determine strategies, techniques, accuracy, completion, etc. for bids.
  • Assist in marketing, presentations, and sales pursuits as required.
  • Assist as appropriate in the closing of a sale and final contract negotiations with an owner.
  • Oversee and/or lead the preconstruction phase of negotiated projects.
  • Review bid documents and specifications for risk items and provide risk mitigation strategies.
  • Visit project sites for pre-bid evaluations.
  • Maintain current, accurate information on prices from suppliers and contractors through industry publications, reporting, direct contact, and written materials, price lists, etc.
  • Perform quantity take-off using Cullen’s estimating software.
  • Prepare accurate estimates from plans and specifications, and by utilizing our estimating systems and processes.
  • Contact subcontractors and suppliers during the bidding process to confirm who is bidding, verify inclusions/exclusions, and perform general coordination.
  • Negotiate subcontracts and purchase agreements for projects that are awarded as required.
  • Ensure that corporate cost control standards are implemented properly as they relate to self-performed work.
  • Review final estimates prior to formal quotation and presentation.
  • Schedule estimating resources and coordinate with other department leaders to ensure efficient utilization of estimating personnel.
  • Maintain estimating software, systems, databases, and processes.
  • Mentor and train staff for personal and professional growth.
  • Provide input on recruiting, hiring, promoting, and staffing.

The ideal candidate has the following experiences and qualifications but are not a requirement:

  • Four-year college degree related to construction or engineering or completion of an apprenticeship with at least nine or more years of experience in a construction-related position and at least six years of experience in estimating.
  • Proficient at quantity take-offs consisting of concrete, steel, masonry, and carpentry.
  • Experience in a leadership position with successful, demonstrated results.
  • Must possess superior communication and interpersonal (facilitation, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills.

The Estimator’s success is determined by high quality takeoffs and estimates, tracking historical costs, and following processes.  Individual training on JP Cullen’s estimating processes and systems will be provided as well as bi-weekly team trainings throughout the estimating group on various topics.  The Estimator reports directly to the Chief Estimator in the Janesville Division and is a member of the company wide Estimating and Preconstruction Group.

Our Need:  The ideal candidate has 2 to 3 years of applicable estimating experience in the construction industry with a company that self-performs work in concrete, masonry, steel, carpentry or a combination of those trades.  We need someone who enjoys collaborating with the team to develop the construction plan and working independently on their assigned divisions of work.

  • Perform analysis of construction methods (crane reaches, formwork design, erosion control, and grading modifications).
  • Produce miscellaneous sketches and drawings as required to show field conditions to the architect, clarify plan details for craft persons (e.g. lift drawing), proposing alternate details.

  • Project closeout – expedite punchlist, and track and verify that items on the punchlist are being completed.

The role of the BIM Engineer is to implement BIM technologies for any assigned project from preconstruction through turnover. Major responsibilities include:

  • Collect and integrate BIMs for all project team parties, run MEP coordination (clash detection) meetings, and maintain issue logs, taking issues to completion.
  • Operate laser scanner, coordinate, and model if applicable, laser scanned data for integration in models. Develop/coordinate design documents from data.
