Industrial Operations Manager

The Industrial Division within J.P. Cullen has an opening for an Operations Manager.

The main purpose of an Operations Manager is to ensure that the Project Teams have the tools, training, and resources available to safely and productively execute and deliver high quality projects. This position ensures that our business operations are efficient in terms of using as few resources as needed and effective in terms of meeting client requirements.

Operations Manager Responsibilities:
  • SAFETY.  Ensure adherence to rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • QUALITY.  Ensure that the intent of Cullen policies, procedures and quality standards are followed in accordance with our Quality Management System.
  • SUPERVISION/PRODUCTION.  Coordinate, manage, and monitor.
    • Sharing of resources (labor, material, equipment, information) with other Operation Managers as coordinated with the Divisional General Superintendent.
    • Assist the project team with pre-job planning.
    • Conduct union pre-con, meetings with signatory trades.
    • Lead Process improvements and Pre-fabrication efforts with the project teams.
    • Involved in pricing of major scopes of work.
  • FINANCIAL.  Plan and oversee the development and implementation for the wellbeing of the company.
    • Review the accuracy of the management information Project Manager and Superintendent’s monthly projects, financial, schedule, project plan, change orders and owner satisfaction.
    • Maintain positive financial posture for the division and monitor cost analysis activities on a routine basis.
  • STRATEGIC INPUT.  Actively participate with Divisional Vice President with annual planning session and follow through with execution of plan.
  • SALES & MARKETING.  Support marketing activities, support sales and manage customer support.
  • HUMAN RESOURCES.  Reviews, evaluations, feedback, bonus calculations, etc.
    • Grow people, i.e. attract, develop, retain, educate, promote, reward, succession.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Extended travel in and out of the state will be required for project reviews, proposals, site evaluations, union pre-jobs and coaching of project teams.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Four-year college degree related to construction or completion of an apprenticeship and combination of at least two to four years of field and managerial experience or six to eight or more years of experience in a construction-related position where knowledge was gained in the areas of construction, design, finance and management. In addition, at least ten years of Superintendent/Project Manager experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of all aspects of construction required, including rigging, steel, concrete, masonry, carpentry, mechanical systems and subcontract management.
  • Must possess superior communication and interpersonal (facilitation, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills.
  • Have a good understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.
  • Must be able to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance.
