Meet the Crew: Tim Jordan

Tiffany Scuglik

With the football season just beginning, we are shining the spotlight on one of our Project Managers, Tim Jordan. Tim is an alumni of UW- Madison and played for the Badgers throughout his college career.  After graduation, Tim was drafted fourth round by the New England Patriots.  In 2001, he was inducted into the Madison Sport Hall of Fame. Tim has been with JP Cullen for over 20 years. Aside from football, Tim is very active in the Madison community including being a leadership council member for Lake Edge United Church of Christ and volunteering for Vera Court.

What is your role at JP Cullen?

Currently, I am a Project Manager. I work closely with the Client, Project Team, Sub-Contractors, and Design team to ensure the project stays on budget and on schedule.

Over my career I have worked on some very high profile jobs in a wide variety market sectors such as the State Capitol Renovation, Camp Randall Student Athlete Performance Center, La Crosse County Law Enforcement, WI Institutes for Medical Research, Galena Strauss Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital Parking Garage, and many more.

How does your work now relate to the lessons you learned while playing football?

Working in construction is very similar to football. It takes extremely hard work and a close knit team to get the job done.  As a Project Manager I coordinate the whole project team.  I need to know what is going on around me and look ahead for any potential road blocks.  This takes strong listening skills as well as communication skills.

It is also a very competitive environment. In football, we had scouting reports that we studied and then came up with offensive and defensive schemes for each opponent we played.  We develop very detailed plans on how to capture the next big job and then how to execute and perform on that job.  Each of our clients is unique and we need to be prepared in order to provide them the best service.

Through football I learned that giving back to the community who supports you is extremely important. As a student athlete at UW we had the support of our peers and also the community.  Without that support our experience would have been so much different.  We not only leave legacies in the buildings that we construct but also in community service.  Throughout my career I have continued to stay involved in the communities in which I live and work.

What has your involvement been in Vera Court?

I am serving as the Building Chair for Vera Court Neighborhood Center’s Vera Vision 2020 Campaign. I have advised them on their renovation and expansion project.  Vera Court aims to double the size of their center, expand their programming, and provide academic services to the children and families who attend.  This project means so much to them, our Madison community, and me so I try to help in any way that I can.

What does Vera Court mean to you?

I grew up in Madison and graduated from Lafollette High School. I then attended the University of Wisconsin and played football.  I am now raising my family in Madison.  Needless to say Madison is a big part of who I am and is very important to me.  Being able to help the community is so important.  The Vera Court Neighborhood Center is building strong communities through education and employment programming for children, adults, and families.  They are making a huge difference and I am so proud to be a part of it.
