Celebrating Women’s Build Day with Habitat for Humanity

Tiffany Scuglik

At JP Cullen, an area that we pride ourselves in is equal opportunities presented to our female employees. We encourage women to build their careers, try something new, chase after their goals, and achieve them. The construction industry presents countless opportunities for this to happen and JP Cullen is a catalyst for these opportunities.

“I would encourage other women to have a career in this industry because the opportunities to learn something new every day are endless. It’s crazy to think about all the components that go into the construction of a building and be able to see it first hand is awesome.”

To celebrate women in construction, JP Cullen celebrated Women’s Build Day at Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. JP Cullen was represented by four exemplary women: Alexandra Herrmann, Jessica Farrar, Mary Jo Wing, and Kate Olson. The team took on the project of building the wall frames of a future home for a local community member. The community member was even there to join the team and help with the building of the project! The day ended with the whole group standing up all of the wall frames forming the frame of the house giving everyone a chance to see how this future house will look like.

“It was fun seeing how much we could accomplish in just one day. We met some incredible women from the community.” – Mary Jo Wing, Administrative Assistant at JP Cullen

The goal of Women’s Build Day is to empower women to help families build strength, stability, and independence. Habitat for Humanity administers the ability to provide opportunities for hands-on learning, and given these tools, help women succeed in changing their communities. This opportunity additionally allows women to see the immediate impact they are making on the community and the value that comes from their work.

“I chose the construction industry because it is not a typical industry Industrial Engineers go into. I felt that working in the construction industry would make me more versatile in my career and that working in prefabrication could increase my creativity as I begin to understand more about different processes that I research and observe onsite.” – Jessica Farrar, Prefabrication Engineer at JP Cullen

To all the women looking for positions that challenge them and draw them to something new every day, JP Cullen has positions that fit your ambition. We want you to be the difference maker in our company. If you are interested in joining our team, check out our Careers page here!
