Two years ago, JP Cullen ventured out and began a project unlike anything we’ve done before. Working closely with UW-Madison and other local Wisconsin businesses we built a state of the art music hall for the Mead Witter School of Music.
The Hamel Music Center is the new primary venue for The Mead Witter School of Music. The new landmark is the gateway to campus in the new “art district.” This unique construction is made up of three music halls, the Mead Witter Foundation Concert Hall, Collins Recital Hall, and the Sing Man & Florence Lee/ Annette Kauffman Rehearsal Hall.
Each hall is unique in design and functionality. The Mead Foundation Concert Hall serves as the main venue with the capacity to seat 660 people. It features a second-floor choir loft that can be used for additional seating. The hall has personalized copper plaques on the back of seats to honor donors who helped fund the design and construction of the project. The second space is intended for smaller audiences. The Collins Recital Hall seats up to 300 people with 360 degree viewing on second floor. The Sing Man & Florence Lee/Annette Kauffman Rehearsal Hall accommodates both learning and small performances.
All three halls feature cutting-edge acoustic technology designed to prepare students to perform at the highest of professional standards. Careful planning and strategic acoustical design took place to ensure that each hall produced its own sound without any overlap.
The school had seen no significant upgrades since 1985.
We are proud to be a part of the construction of continued landmark projects on campus and continue our relationship with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
