This week are shining the spotlight on Jeremy Wiggs! Jeremy is a Carpenter Foreman for JP Cullen. We sat down with him to learn a little more about him.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
My favorite thing about my job is the challenges that we face on a day to day basis, both with the project and with the personnel. We have to be subject matter experts in both, and I find it challenging and rewarding at the same time.
What sparked your interest in the construction industry?
To be completely honest, when I first started in the industry, I had no clue what I wanted to do in life. I was in-between jobs looking for work when my long-time mentor and friend, Command Sergeant Major (retired) Mark Mitchell, approached me with a job offer working for a friend of his. I accepted and realized that I actually enjoyed getting up and going to work every day. I still feel that way to this day. I have found out that this is not work it’s one of my passions. I also believe in what Steve Jobs stated, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. The only way to do great work is to love what you do.”
Who has been most motivational to you in your career?
I have several, where do I start… My first foreman taught me that it only takes one second longer to be perfect, don’t settle for less.
I will also mention that I have worked for a company that considered us as numbers, here at JP Cullen they treat you like family. Since I have started working here Doug Demrow and Tony Rothschadl took a chance on me and started mentoring me to become a leader in this company which I am truly grateful for.
What is your favorite project you have worked on?
I have a couple. Milwaukee Bucks Training Center, due to the fact it was very challenging, the site was very tight, and we were setting wall panels with a crane. It was the first time that I was in charge of anything with a crane. Luckily, Tony R. was right there to help teach me about crane swing radius, weight loads, and how to set up crane operations.
What is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement would be getting married and fathering 5 children. I have 1 daughter and 4 sons, and an amazing wife that supports me in whatever shenanigans I get into.
What are your top three highlights of your life?
Having an amazing family, spending 26 years in the military, and being a leader in a company that appreciates you.
What is your favorite memory?
The birth of every one of my children. It truly is a blessing to have the family that I have.
