6th Construction Career Fair Since 2015

Joe Schwengels

Our annual career fair is just one example of our commitment to the construction industry and providing opportunities for students who have a passion for the skilled trades.

Our Apprenticeship Committee works hard to ensure that we’re able to build partnerships with local area schools by participating in tours of our job sites and mentoring students in the classroom.

This year, we hosted our 6th construction fair since 2015 at our Janesville headquarters where over 250 students participated in various hands-on stations lead by different trades.

Not Your Traditional Career Fair

When taking a step into our career fair, you’ll notice it’s not the same as most traditional fairs you’ve been to. Construction is a hands-on field, so to best understand the different career paths we offer a variety of activities allowing students to put themselves into the shoes of the different trades.

We want to ensure that the students are exposed to all of the different opportunities that the trades and construction industry has to offer, so they are best able to find their passions.

This year’s fair featured electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, ironworkers, carpenters, concrete finishers, masons, operating engineers, safety, virtual design & construction (VDC), and prefabrication.

Different Career Paths Following High School

With over 200 students from local area schools, there was a lot of learning taking place! The schools that stopped by included: Janesville Parker High School, Janesville  Joseph A. Craig High School, Delavan-Darien High School, Edgerton High School, Juda High School, Stoughton Area High School, Clinton Community High School, Parkview High School, Beloit Memorial High School, Wisconsin School for the Deaf, and Koshkonong Trails. Not all high school students have the same graduation plans, and it’s great to see the excitement for the different career paths that the construction industry has available.

Hear from our Raving Fans

“Thank you again for inviting us to this special event. I believe it was one of the best fairs we have been to. The hands-on experiences you had for the kids, was great and really let them see, and experience what the trades are all about. Top notch!” – Jerred Simonson, Apprenticeship and Training Coordinator/Instructor for OPCMIA 599 Madison
