Hannah Jost, a Site Engineer with JP Cullen, has been with the company since May 2018. She is currently at the VA Soldiers Home project where she is part of the window restoration work and case work throughout the building.
What do you like best about working at JP Cullen?
Everyone has a similar personality and work ethic which makes it easy to work long hours. A late night pink sheet party is truly a party. Also, the amount of resources and help received across projects and roles is something I have never experienced. I have never felt like I am on an island on my own.
What sparked your interest in the construction industry?
My uncle (a carpenter) used to take me to work with him when I was very young. When I was in kindergarten, we were asked to write down what we wanted to do when we were older on a gold star I wrote, “I want to build a house”. I think I got pretty close!
What is something people wouldn’t expect about you?
I am an auxiliary vocalist in a cover band that is about to take over southeastern Wisconsin. I encourage anyone who likes to have fun to come out to a Smart Mouth show!
What is your proudest achievement?
Receiving the engineering excellence award at Order of the Engineer my senior year of college. The college actually had to split the award for the first time because my best friend and I both were so deserving of it.
What is the best advice you have received?
Always join your coworkers for a drink at the bar, it is the best way to network.
What is your favorite memory?
On my birthday this year, I drove 6 hours each way to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to see my favorite band. I got to crowd surf to my favorite song and meet the band where they called me an original fan.
What has been most motivational to you in your career?
My first mentors, from when I interned for the WisDOT on the zoo interchange: Sara Feuling and Jim Mantes. Jim is the main reason I work for JP Cullen now. Sara is an excellent resource being a strong women in the industry and Jim is always looking out for me and one of the best teachers I have had.
