Meet Matt Roberts! Matt is an Ironworker Foreman at JP Cullen.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
For me, it’s being able to work with and for some of the hardest working men and women in the business, being a part of a brotherhood in this construction world, and knowing that so many people have your back.
What sparked your interest in the construction industry?
It started when I was a kid. My dad was an ironworker and would take me on jobs and I was always amazed by the cranes and the people he worked with.
Who has been most motivational to you in your career?
This comes from a man that is no longer with us but he told me one day that if I had to work for someone for a living that the grass would never be green for me, it was going to be hazy brown wherever I went. But with a little fortitude and grit, I am where I am today.
What is your proudest achievement?
When it comes to my career, it’s in the moment right now. But outside of work, it’s being able to do what needed to be done to raise a family, own my home, and lead a pretty good life.
What are your top three highlights of your life?
Raising two young men that are humble yet aggressive but also have respect for others.
For the past 25+ years in the ironworkers, I have never been laid off once.
Last but really in no specific order, my wife, who has stood with me through a lot of highs and lows. (She can tell you what it’s like being married to an ironworker).
What is your favorite memory?
My most favorite memories would have to be all of the times I got to spend hunting and fishing with my brother.
What is something that no one knows about you?
I’ve always have said that if the ironworkers didn’t work out for me that I could probably make a good go at Culinary school. I love to cook.
