Meet the Crew: Tony Hanus

Tiffany Scuglik

This week are shining the spotlight on our Masonry Foreman, Tony Hanus!

What is your proudest achievement?

My proudest achievement workwise would be the South Milwaukee High School.  This project, at the time, was one of the largest masonry projects Cullen had ever done.  The masonry was projected to come in at a very low profit, if not a loss.  The masonry activities were scheduled for an  11 month duration.  Through a lot of hard work, excellent planning, and great teamwork, we completed this project in 6 months with high quality and substantial savings to Cullen.

My proudest achievement personally would be working my way to the position I am in at Cullen.  I started as a laborer, which most people in this business can relate, and ending up as a mason foreman.  I started mason tending with Cullen in 1994. I was actually interviewed and hired by Rich Cullen (if anyone remembers when he used to interview people).  I started my position as a mason foreman in 1998.  I have completed many successful projects and am thankful for the opportunities Cullen has provided me.

Who has been most important to you?

I have a few people to mention in this category as a lot of people have helped me become who I am today.  When I was growing up, I would have to say my dad.  He was the one who taught me how to work hard and introduced me into the construction industry.  Without him, I would not be in the business I am in today.  Once I decided on my trade, Pat Lynch taught me how to do quality masonry.  Curt Meier taught me the trade and how to think things though (I am sure most of you can understand).  Todd Christensen taught me production and how to make money.

Tell us one thing that no one knows about you.

I ran a marathon in October 2007. My goal was to complete it in under 4 hours, which I did (3:59:24). Nailed it!
