JP Cullen Recognizes Future Builders

Tiffany Scuglik

On Tuesday, November 13th, JP Cullen brought together our 92 apprentices from Janesville, Madison, and Milwaukee as part of Apprentice Appreciation Week for a full afternoon meeting in Johnson Creek. Richard Cullen, VP of Field Operations, Joe Schwengels, Superintendent and Apprentice Lead Developer, and Maurie Mueller, Process Improvement Engineer and Journeyman Carpenter, spoke throughout the day, and the apprentices heard stories from the experienced veterans, shared lessons learned with one another, and asked questions on careers in construction.  The day also focused on teamwork skills and developing career-lasting relationships with each other.

Richard Cullen, a 4th generation owner of JP Cullen who has worked directly with tradespeople for many years in his role of VP of Operations, reminded the apprentices that they are Construction Professionals and what they do is more than simply a job. They are working on large, complex, multi-million dollar projects and that they should be incredibly proud of the work they do. They are leaving behind a legacy in every building they touch. Not everyone can do the work they accomplish with their hands!

JP Cullen values our apprentices and the work they put in place. We meet with each apprentice individually to go over their career path and show them all of the opportunities that can come from a career in construction. We also give them feedback on which areas they are excelling and which areas they can improve. In addition to the feedback, we provide them with the tools and coaching they need to improve.  JP Cullen is dedicated to preparing apprentices to be the future builders of Wisconsin.
