JP Cullen has supported United Way for years. As builders of our local communities, we make it a priority to give back because we know how important strong communities are.
United Way’s Annual Intern Day of Action
This past summer, our interns participated in United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County’s Annual Intern Day of Action. This unique opportunity allowed interns from all over the Greater Milwaukee Area to volunteer locally, making a visible impact on the communities they worked in all summer.
The event heavily focused on education and community empowerment. The volunteer opportunities differed greatly amongst the groups of interns, ranging from painting fences and tutoring students to spending time with seniors.
Activities of the Day
JP Cullen intern Kyle Davis talked about the volunteer opportunity saying, “I really enjoyed spending time with the other interns in the Milwaukee Division and being able to work with seniors at the United Community Center downtown. I’m glad that JP Cullen allowed us to be a part of the event. I would definitely do it again.”
The JP Cullen interns ran a carnival for seniors at the United Community Center (UCC). The carnival games included giant bowling, frisbee toss, giant connect four, and carnival toss. Other activities included nail painting, a snack station, and an impromptu dance party!
Intern Nick Hess was one of the first interns to join in on the dancing with one of the senior women, where she helped him practice his Latin dancing. Nick said, “My favorite part of the event was dancing with the seniors and seeing how much joy it brought them to have us there. I’m glad JP Cullen was able to participate in the intern volunteer day and make a real difference in our community alongside other local companies.”
While playing games, there were a lot of conversations being had from the excitement of the day’s activities to reminiscing about where and what the UCC members were doing when they were the interns’ age. Milwaukee intern Kevin Tobin said, “My favorite part about volunteering was getting to interact with the seniors and seeing how much fun they had playing games with us.”
As the carnival ended and clean up began, the seniors said farewell to their new friends. Intern Aadyn Holtz commented on the experience as a whole saying, “My favorite part of the United Way event was seeing people from our local community smiling and having a great time from something we were able to help put together. It made me feel fortunate to work for a company that can put time aside to help others out and brighten their day.”
