Advocate Aurora Health Lakeland Medical Center Emergency Department Renovation

JP Cullen successfully completed Aurora Health’s Lakeland Medical Center Emergency Department renovation and addition. Delivered using Lean construction principles and a design‑build approach, the project focused on efficiency, collaboration, and patient-centered outcomes.
This phased project included the renovation of the existing Emergency Department and a 9,500‑square‑foot addition to the medical center campus. The carefully planned phasing strategy minimized disruption to patient care and ensured continuous operation for staff and end users throughout construction.
Phase 1 of the project included the renovation of the existing ambulance bay and the creation of 12 new emergency department beds along with an emergency triage room. The flow from the ambulance bay to treatment areas was intentionally designed to enhance the patient experience while improving efficiency for staff and care givers.
Phase 2 began once the new space was turned over for patient and staff use. The existing Emergency Department was then renovated to algin with the design standards and care delivery workflow of the addition, creating a seamless expanded emergency department for the community.
