Projects lined up for American Family Field include hospitality space, winterization

American Family Field will get a 20,000-square-foot addition that will be available for event rentals for the general public during the Milwaukee Brewers’ offseason and as an amenity to season ticket holders during the season.

The hospitality addition is one of the three largest projects at the stadium included in a $500 million funding package Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Legislature agreed to in 2023. Public funding for the stadium improvements was essential to the Brewers agreeing to a 25-year lease extension through 2050.

The other projects involve winterizing the stadium for year-round events and creating a multi-purpose plaza in an area outside the outfield.

The new hospitality area will be added to the exterior of the first base side of American Family Field, said Brian Dworak, facility manager for landlord the Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park District. Construction is expected to start within the next couple of weeks and be completed in early 2027, he said Monday.

The stadium district awarded the construction management contract for the hospitality addition to Hunzinger Construction of Brookfield, Dworak told the district board on Monday.

A Brewers spokesman didn’t immediately respond to a call seeking more details on the hospitality addition.

American Family Field already features suites that ring the stadium with indoor areas and open-air seating. They have the capacity for groups of 20 to 100, according to the Brewers’ website.

The winterization project has a budget of $25 million, and the district awarded construction management to J.P. Cullen & Sons, which has its headquarters in Janesville.

Dworak said he anticipates construction will start in late spring this year. Crews will perform work during the baseball season when the Brewers are on the road and then ramp up activity during the offseason.

The project should be complete by early 2028, which would enable indoor events that winter, Dworak said.

The specifications for the project require achieving indoor temperatures of 68 degrees Fahrenheit when outdoor temperatures are as low as 10 below zero, he said. The project includes installing piping and heating equipment, he said.
