Historically, the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital referred their cancer patients to the Milwaukee VA or local private hospitals due to the limited cancer treatment services they had on-site. This 14,000 sqft addition allowed them to treat veterans in-house with the latest technology and service offerings. The project included the addition of two new, state-of-the-art Linear Accelerate Rooms, one CT Simulator Room, multiple infusion therapy rooms, exam rooms, support, and training areas.
Located inside an active hospital, the VA Cancer Center required careful precision, coordination, and attention to site conditions. Three sides of the site were directly adjacent to the existing hospital, which required us to maintain pedestrian access at all times. Additionally, several existing underground utilities were uncovered during excavation. Due to the site’s age and lack of as-builts, in-depth coordination was required to work around utilities and keep the project on schedule. The finished space provides multidisciplinary cancer care by a team of healthcare professionals, all under one roof.
