Fort HealthCare Fort Memorial Hospital
Fort HealthCare has been a long-standing partner of ours for more than 27 years, trusting our team to complete major construction projects at their hospital and clinics across Jefferson County. Most recently, we were selected again as their project partner to help advance a series of initiatives aligned with their long-term master planning goals.
A key objective of their plan was to consolidate 11 Fort Atkinson area clinics into underutilized space within the hospital, creating a centralized, patient-focused environment where the majority of services can be located under one roof. This approach improved accessibility and efficiency for both patients and staff while maintaining select clinic locations in neighboring communities to continue serving regional needs.
This two-year project included a comprehensive renovation of the original 1949 hospital wing and was completed over five phases across five floors, allowing the facility to remain operational throughout construction. Critical infrastructure upgrades were a major component of the work, including parking lots, modernized HVAC systems, new switchgear, and the addition of a catwalk connecting the existing structure to new air handling units serving the expansion.
At the heart of the renovation is a new state-of-the-art culinary cafeteria and kitchen, designed as both a functional space and a welcoming gathering place for patients, families, and the community. Relocated from the basement, this central hub now serves as a key feature of the facility, reinforcing a more hospitality-driven patient experience with a lot of natural light. Adjacent to the kitchen is a centralized check-in system – an innovative solution for a rural healthcare system designed to streamline patient flow with a goal of completing check-in in under 60 seconds.
A standout component of the project is the modernization of the hospital’s operating rooms, which were upgraded with cutting-edge technology. Enhancements include the integration of surgical robotics and advanced imaging equipment, such as an O-Arm CT system that enables real-time imaging during procedures, improving surgical precision and patient outcomes. This level of technology represents a significant advancement for a rural hospital and positions Fort HealthCare among the most forward-thinking healthcare providers in the region.
The project also included a full exterior renovation to match the new addition with the existing structure through adding metal panels and brickwork, creating a cohesive campus appearance.
