This five-story, new research and teaching facility on Babcock Drive accommodates 288 researchers and 28 lab groups. The facility includes: plant-growth chambers, an animal holding facility, departmental library, 60-seat lecture forum, and 2,500-square-foot Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Suite.

Offices and labs are located on the building’s perimeter to allow an abundance of natural light to all occupants. More light is captured by two central atriums that create a visual connection among the floors. Areas such as the lunch rooms, library, and conference rooms are organized as adjacencies around the atriums to create “interaction spaces.” A bridge links the structure to the 1985 wing of the Biochemistry Department.
